Created by a successful homebuilder, and a Certified Public Accountant, BuildWorks® nails together two of the most popular computer applications ever developed – QuickBooks Pro® and Microsoft Office – into a complete construction-specific information management system aimed at small to midsize builders, remodelers, general contractors, and other construction professionals.

BuildWorks V-4 provides over 80 construction-specific tools for Estimating, Job Costing, Purchase Orders, Change Orders, Work orders, Options-Upgrades-Selections, Scheduling, Warranty Tracking, Financial Accounting, Payroll, and more. New in BuildWorks® Version 4
BuildWorks V-4 integrates even more seamlessly with QuickBooks Pro than ever before.

- Budgets in the QuickBooks Company file are set up automatically, and estimate summaries created in any of the BuildWorks V-4 estimators can be automatically turned into a QuickBooks job budget. In addition, there have been dozens of improvements to the BuildWorks V-4 interface making the program easier to set-up and use than ever before.

PRESS BACKGROUNDER:
ADVANTAGES OF BUILDWORKS V-2 OVER OTHER INTEGRATED CONSTRUCTION SOFTWARE

BuildWorks® is a complete construction information management system that integrates the Microsoft Office™ Suite with Intuit's QuickBooks Pro®. With BuildWorks®, Synapse Software, Inc has created an elegant, powerful, and easy-to-use business system created and priced specifically for today’s construction industry. Benefits of the modular, forms-based BuildWorks® approach include:

Short Learning Curve:
Buildworks® utilizes software most contractors are already familiar with: Microsoft Office and Intuit™ QuickBooks Pro. Users can concentrate on using BuildWorks® instead of learning new software interfaces.

Easy Customization: BuildWorks® is a collection of templates, reports, and forms built in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Intuit™ QuickBooks® formats. Users can easily modify any component of the system to meet their needs, without hiring a programmer, and without additional licensing fees or additional development software. For example, BuildWorks® components could be easily modified to display on a handheld device, or pushed to a company Intranet or Extranet using technology built-in to Microsoft Office and QuickBooks®.

Data Viability: Microsoft Office® and QuickBooks® represent file formats in use by over 80% of small businesses worldwide, and will remain readily available for the foreseeable future. This ensures mission-critical data created in BuildWorks® will always be available to the contractor.

Modular Deployment: Unlike proprietary "integrated" construction software, users can deploy as little, or as much, of BuildWorks® as they want, at any pace they are comfortable with. Deploying BuildWorks® does not require massive disruption of existing office systems, particularly if the contractor is already using QuickBooks for accounting.

Easy Integration:
BuildWorks® does suggest viable workflow for the small-to-midsize contractor, but does not force the user into any specific procedures like other products do. Construction Pros can choose to use the BuildWorks® procedures, or can modify them to integrate in their existing environment.

Low Cost, High ROI:
Relative to other integrated packages, which can often top $10,000 per seat, BuildWorks® delivers the highest value in the industry. An initial investment of under $2000 will allow multiple users to access and use the BuildWorks® system. The BuildWorks® forms, templates, and reports represent many man-years of development. It would be nearly impossible for a working contractor to single-handedly develop similar functionality – at any price.

Proven Solution:
BuildWorks® and its predecessor GC Works are in use by successful contractors and homebuilders all across the U.S., including the developer Jim Erwin who is a successful land developer and builder in the tough upstate New York market. It is a proven way to manage a successful construction business.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

LEADING CONSTRUCTION BUSINESS SOFTWARE NOW INTEGRATES WITH OFFICE TO IMPROVE BUILDER PROFITABILITY

Synapse Software’s BuildWorks targets small and mid-sized construction firms with an economical, full-featured system built upon Microsoft Office, Intuit QuickBooks Pro.

ROCHESTER, N.Y., March 28, 2001 The leading, economical, full-function software for construction businesses is now built upon the Microsoft Office Suite, as well as Intuits QuickBooks Pro, to improve builders’ business efficiency and profitability. The new BuildWorks from Synapse Software, Inc. will have its debut at the JLC Live Show April 6 to 7 in Providence, R.I., updating seven-year-old GCWorks, which runs on AppleWorks and QuickBooks Pro.

By moving to Office, BuildWorks now builds upon the powerful functionality, flexibility and ease-of-use features of two of the worldÕs most popular software packages. Several new templates and smart forms have been added, and all are redesigned. Estimate summaries import into a pre-configured QuickBooks Pro file with a large collection of reports that are configured for the construction business. Together, the Office- and QuickBooks-based system address the full spectrum of small to mid-sized construction company business requirements from pre sales through customer service and warranty.

"In this price range, no one covers the full range of construction business activities as completely as BuildWorks," said Jim Erwin, president and chief executive officer, Synapse Software. "By introducing the new templates and forms our customers ask for, and by building upon two powerful platforms - we are once again extending our leadership in cost-effectively delivering full functionality to small to mid-size builders and developers."

BuildWorks templates and "smart forms" now run in Microsoft Excel and Word to help manage pre-sales, estimating, change orders, purchase orders, work orders, scheduling, progress draws, warranty, and other tasks. The system integrates accounting and job costing capabilities, permitting builders to better track actual job costs and compare them to the estimate, which can help to improve profitability.

BuildWorks will be available in five targeted editions: the economical Basic Edition, the more advanced Standard Edition, and three editions tailored for specific businesses: Contractor, HomeBuilder, and Developer.

BuildWorks runs on computers using the Microsoft Windows and Apple Macintosh operating systems. Upgrades generally are timed to coincide with new releases of QuickBooks Pro and Microsoft Office.

Pricing and Availability

BuildWorks will be available in the United States via the company’s Web site (www.synapsesoftware.com), and direct via toll-free phone line (1-800-420-2521). Application and business consulting also are available from Synapse, which is a certified QuickBooks Pro Advisor.
